چکیده

Atriplex halimus (L.) is a xero-halophyte shrub adapted to extreme drought and salinity stresses. Ability of local A. halimus to tolerate salinity stress was investigated. Two-month-old A. halimus plants were exposed to salt stress (0, 150, 300 and 600 mM NaCl) in properly aerated liquid medium. Differential gene expression of stressed plants was investigated using real-time PCR analysis. Furthermore, stress related physiological changes including photosynthetic efficiency, chlorophyll, carotenoid, free proline and MDA content were measured. Stressed plants showed increased expression of salt response genes compared to the control (intermediateassociated protein, acetohydroxy acid reductoisomerase, early-responsive to dehydration stress-related protein, ER-lumenal protein and membrane protein). Their expression was much higher at 150 mM than 300 mM stress level, indicating their specificity for low level salt stress. Photosynthetic activity was slightly decreased with both extended stress exposure and increased salt concentration, while total chlorophyll and proline increased under saline stress. The MDA level was significantly lower after 70 h compared to 30 h stress. Adaptation to salt stress is a complex trait governs by molecular changes expressed as physiological processes during plant development.

Study of the Atriplex halimus response to drought and salinity stress in the seedling stage

In order to study effect of the various levels of drought and salinity stress (0, -4, -8, -12, -16 bar) on morphological, physiological and biochemical traits of Atriplex halimus in seedling stage under hydroponic culture, two separated experiments were conducted as completely randomized design in three replications in hydroecology laboratory of Gonbad Kavous University...

The tolerance of Atriplex halimus L. to environmental stresses

Atriplex halimus L. (Amaranthaceae) (Mediterranean Saltbush) is a perennial, halophytic shrub that possesses the C4 photosynthetic anatomy and physiology. It grows under semi-arid and arid conditions (annual rainfall < 600 mm) from Macaronesia, through the Mediterranean basin countries and into western Asia, being particularly common on saline and degraded soils. Many studies have shed light on...

Vesiculated Hairs: A Mechanism for Salt Tolerance in Atriplex halimus L.

The concentration of salts in the vesiculated hairs of Atriplex halimus L. was measured and was remarkably higher than that of the leaf sap and xylem exudate. In spite of their unusually high salt content, these hairs when immersed seemed unable to absorb water, in apparent contradiction to the previously held hypothesis that vesiculated hairs make it possible for such plants to absorb water fr...

Abscisic acid has contrasting effects on salt excretion and polyamine concentrations of an inland and a coastal population of the Mediterranean xero-halophyte species Atriplex halimus.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Different populations of the Mediterranean xerohalophyte species Atriplex halimus exhibit different levels of resistance to salt and osmotic stress depending on the nature of the osmocompatible solute they accumulate. There is, however, no conclusive description of the involvement of abscisic acid (ABA) in the plant response to NaCl or osmotic stress in this species. METHO...

An inland and a coastal population of the Mediterranean xero-halophyte species Atriplex halimus L. differ in their ability to accumulate proline and glycinebetaine in response to salinity and water stress.

Soil salinity and drought compromise water uptake and lead to osmotic adjustment in xero-halophyte plant species. These important environmental constraints may also have specific effects on plant physiology. Stress-induced accumulation of osmocompatible solutes was analysed in two Tunisian populations of the Mediteranean shrub Atriplex halimus L.-plants originating from a salt-affected coastal ...
